Armistice 1918-They lived the war

Developed by the Royal ^22nd Regiment Museum, the exhibition marked the ^100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. It highlights the human experience during this pivotal period in history. Through the eyes of soldiers, prisoners, the wounded, and nurses, this exhibition allows visitors to relive the key events of the end of this major conflict and the return to peace. These men and women experienced a range of emotions, tinged with discouragement and fear, but also hope and joy. Having set out into the unknown, they returned changed to a world forever transformed.

Through their correspondence, period photographs, personal objects, and trench art, visitors will be immersed in the very heart of this period of transition and great upheaval. Although the armistice was declared in 1918, the end of the fighting, the return home, and reintegration into civilian life were trying transitional stages for these front-line witnesses. This exhibition is a tribute to their courage and resilience.
