As part of Heritage Week, the Royal 22nd Regiment Museum is pleased to invite you to the launch of the book *Letters to My Parents: War Correspondence, 1916–1918*. Discover Captain Paul-Émile Côté’s moving correspondence with his parents during the Great War, beautifully illustrated by Annick Fontaine. A reading of excerpts and book signing with the author—an intimate account of memory, war, and peace.
About the collection
This collection of wartime correspondence consists of letters that Paul-Émile Côté wrote to his parents during the Great War. A native of Cap-Chat, in the Gaspé Peninsula, he volunteered for the189th Battalion in 1916. Upon his arrival in Europe, he was recruited by the22nd Battalion, with which he served from 1916 to 1918. His writings are marked by great vitality and a zest for life, constantly juxtaposed with horror and death.
About the artist
Annick Fontaine lives and works in the Charlevoix region. With a bachelor’s degree in visual arts, specializing in photography, from Concordia University, she turns her life into an artistic experience. Painting, drawing, and writing are forms of expression she explores with great enthusiasm. This new book brings together the letters her great-uncle Paul-Émile Côté wrote to his parents during World War I. The artist has illustrated the story.
