General tour

The guided tour tells you about American attacks, the development of the fortifications and buildings of La Citadelle, in addition to offering an exceptional view of Quebec City and the surrounding region. The guided tour included a tour of La Citadelle and the museums.

Why was the Citadel built? What is a bastion and what is it used for? The tour takes visitors through La Citadelle, telling the story of its construction as it relates to history and the garrison's place as a military site in Quebec City. The tour's various stops introduce the buildings, bastions and strongholds of La Citadelle and their functions in fortification and the city.

The museum's collections and artefacts are located in an old French gunpowder magazine from 1750 and in an old military prison from 1842. One relates the succession of different regimes in Quebec City and the other focuses more on the battle exploits and peacekeeping missions of the members of the Royal 22e Régiment, the only Francophone regiment in the Canadian Forces. There is also an annual temporary exhibit.

Photography without flash is permitted in the museums.

VIP tour

Duration: 90 minutes    Five people minimum.

VIP tours include the general tour and two additional stops: one at the Chapel and another at the flag memorial. Both anecdotal and moving, these stops provide additional understanding of the code of conduct of members of the Royal 22e Régiment, their battle honours and camaraderie.

The Royal 22e Régiment Museum, in partnership with Tours Voir Québec offers a package deal that includes a guided tour of La Citadelle. Tours Voir Québec offers walking tours of Old Quebec every day, year round, through "La Grande visite" and private tours, as well as group walks on the history of Quebec.
